Madison Thanks Second Harvest for Helping Us Provide Healthy Meals to Clients at our CAMH – LPM – MADISON On-Site Support Housing Program
From September 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018, Second Harvest has delivered 11,345 pounds of food to Madison Community Services, a donation valued at $28,362.50.
Madison’s partnership with Second Harvest began in January 2015. Every week, Second Harvest delivers a variety of foodstuff to the 1011 Lansdowne location; gladly utilizing large amounts of the donations to supplement the meal program. Since partnering with Second Harvest, the meal program is now able to offer two meal plans a day (breakfast & lunch), instead of one.
With these donations ‘care packages’ are assembled for residents to take home. Items such as dairy, fruits, and vegetables help supplement residents’ food budget. In addition, a portion of donated food is used towards a baking program.
Second Harvest is the largest food rescue organization in Canada and a global thought leader on food recovery. The organization’s goal is to drastically reduce the amount of food wasted while ensuring people have access to the good, healthy food they need for success, before it ends up in the landfill and negatively impacts our environment.
