Bell Let’s Talk Day!

This day was established as a way to fight mental health stigma, improve access to care, support world-class research and lead by example in workplace mental health. Use this day as a reminder to do at least one self-care activity daily that supports your mental health and well-being. Additionally, take some time to reach out to a friend or loved one and check in on them. Ask them how they are doing and if there is anything you can do to support them.

Black History Month

We would like to acknowledge the month of February as Black History Month. February 1st – February 28th has been set aside to honor the struggles and achievements of Black people.

For many of us, this is also a reminder of the long history of violence, oppression, and discrimination endured by Black in Canada and around the world. The recent killing of Tyre Nichols whose life was prematurely ended by Memphis police further highlights the issues facing Black people and further traumatizes many especially Black parents and children who live with the constant fear of losing loved ones by virtue of the color of their skin.

We remain hopeful that a time will come when society will not judge people based on their race, skin color, and religion.

The 2023 theme for Black history month is “ours to tell”. This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning about the stories of Black people in Canada. The Foundation for Black Communities has partnered with SETSI to host a series of informative digital events for people to capacity-build and learn from Black leaders across the country.
