For 2022, the theme is February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day. At Madison, we acknowledge the hardships and discrimination, both past and present, that Black Canadians experience. Additionally, we recognize and honour the contributions of Black individuals to our country and society such as Mary Ann Shadd Cary, the first Black woman to publish a newspaper in North America in addition to being a teacher, activist and lawyer. Today and every day we also aim to acknowledge the rich diversity in language, history, and culture of Black Canadians.
